Oral Roberts University Launches Mobile App to Help Students Navigate Campus Life and Connect to Important Services Recognized higher education innovator partners with Ready Education to develop customized app to support student retention and engagement

TULSA, OK—Oral Roberts University (ORU), in partnership with Ready Education, has launched a new mobile app designed to help students access critical campus resources and engage in college life. Ready Education is a fast-growing platform developed by former student affairs professionals that creates custom mobile apps for more than 200 colleges and universities worldwide. In August, ORU was recognized with a global award for its innovative use of technology to transform the student experience. “The rapid pace of technological change worldwide is reflected in ORU students’ changing approach to life on campus,” said Michael Mathews, AVP for Innovation at Oral Roberts University, who has been recognized with two awards this month for his implementation of transformative technology on ORU’s campus. “Smartphones are now among the most popular ways to access information about campus life, making it increasingly important for colleges to engage students on mobile. With Ready Education, we have built an app that combines native mobile technology with intuitive design to provide students with a comprehensive, integrated platform for their academic and student life needs – which is why we chose to name the platform the ORU Student Life App.”

Research suggests that nearly nine in 10 college students own a smartphone, and a growing number of undergraduates use mobile devices to complete coursework and access support services and other resources. A recent survey conducted by Ready Education found that students who used a mobile app, rather than a website, to find information were 48% more likely to report satisfaction with the student experience. The ORU Student Life app, which is available for free via the iTunes or Google Play stores, enables students to manage their course schedules, access IT services, and communicate with peers and faculty through a single sign-on solution. The app can be updated based on real-time feedback from students and staff, ensuring that it reflects the specific priorities of the ORU community. “As more and more college students use mobile devices to access information, colleges and universities are increasingly in search of new strategies to help students navigate available resources on campus,” said Danial Jameel, Co-Founder and CEO of Ready Education, who began his career in student affairs at the University of Toronto. “The team at Oral Roberts brings a sophisticated understanding of technology to bear on their efforts to promote student success, and we are excited to help them leverage mobile to support an engaged, informed student body.” Oral Roberts University serves 4,000 students on its Tulsa, OK campus. The university was recently featured in Campus Technology for its pioneering efforts to improve the student experience through technology. Michael Mathews, AVP for Innovation, was honored this month as one of the Center for Digital Education’s 30 Top Technologists, Transformers, and Trailblazers, as well as one of Constellation Research’s Business Transformation 150.
